"Pursuit Of Happiness"
When I was staying in the youth center there was a night where a kid came in and there wasn't an open bed for him. The staff spent time connecting them with resources available at that hour and eventually had no choice but to send him on his way. He was out of it. I hate knowing the feeling of having nowhere to go at night alone. But it’s somewhat beautiful, peaceful and painful all at once. I remembered the scene from the movie “The Pursuit of Happiness,” where Will Smith's character is homeless with his son in the subway station. He goes “imagine there's a jungle and dinosaurs - hurry we have to get to the cave,” or something along those lines. I imagined the kid leaving the center saw a purple sky, a blue moon. That he had light up clothes with his suitcase. That the world was better off than reality so he could get through it. Sometimes it's best to pretend. Then you can get where you need to go.
"Pop -Tart"
I was daydreaming one evening about a Pop-Tart. We had a chocolate one left. Before eating this I helped clean up the communal space. There is a little spray bottle and broom. Then a toaster. Later I planned on toasting the Pop-Tart.
"211"
While drawing this clown creature I was listening to someone talk on the phone with the housing crisis line or 211. There is a star in his eye, a wink and one funky ear.
"Shelly"
An underwater sea creature doing their makeup. The S.S on the mirror represents the brand. I thought “Shellys Seashells,” would be a reasonable underwater makeup brand.
"Jump"
This card is about taking the leap of faith or jump away from societal standards and views pushed upon oneself by other people's projections. The little creature whirring away from the big creature fits perfectly into the big creature's mouth. Since he doesn’t want to be a part of that type of world anymore he jumps into the unknown. He is also holding a small weight because it’s not an easy thing to do. With a white background he’s free to write his own future.
"Alien Therapy"
I made this one a bit before Easter and was curious about if the whole crucifixion could have been prevented had an alien flown down and provided a free therapy session.
